Medication Holiday: It got so bad that it got good
The sores on my hands, feet, and mouth, combined with a gnarly rash that kept getting worse was enough for my doc to give me a medication holiday. This means that I got five delightfully blissful days without the oral dose of my immunotherapy drug, Axitinib.
After about 48 hours, my feet were nearly healed, I could start to write with a pen again, and I began to eat more "adventurous" foods like toast! and plain chicken breast! By Friday, I could eat ANYTHING! I was so excited that Chris and I went out to dinner on both Friday and Saturday, and I made a spicy Chicken Scarpariello for dinner on Sunday.
I was still pretty tired and slept for 10+ hours each night (and napped during the day). I am able to make it through the work day, which is all the really matters.
Yesterday, I was finally prescribed a (THIRD) ointment for the rash, and it actually appears to be helping. I am taking the Axitinib again, so I can expect many of my side effects to return in about a week. I am not sure how fiercely they will return--it is just one of those fun games we get to play! They may ultimately reduce my dose if it gets intolerable again. I am on the max dose, so this won't be a massive setback.
