a little hospital adventure and covid-19

On Wednesday (3/4/20), I had a lot to do. There was a psychologist coming to campus to network, a character ed assembly to run, a learning specialist candidate to meet, and the usual shenanigans. Unfortunately, my body wasn't up for it.

It isn't new that my heart rate spikes pretty easily with activity, but it came to a head when it would not come down after I walked across campus and then led the assembly. I felt lightheaded and nauseated. I asked Chris to take me home, and then spoke to my care team who (surprise, surprise) wanted me to come in.

The hospital staff were very grumpy because their new information system was not working well. I believe the first words we heard when we walked included someone dropping the f-bomb as well as another slur I won't repeat in exasperation at the system. Welcome!

This, of course, meant many delays in getting my bloodwork done. I curled up with my head on Chris' lap and just waited while the check-in staff yelled to the bloodwork staff with versions of "I said to put LeTard at the top of the list!" and "I can't draw blood if I don't have the orders! The system isn't sending the orders!" Relaxing.

My exam didn't reveal much other than my heart rate spiking. The nurse ordered IV fluids. As you might guess, those orders weren't speedy either. Swell.

After a liter of fluids and going to sleep for 10 hours, I woke up feeling well enough to go back to work. My team ordered some tests related to my heart and will get me a cardiologist.

I did fairly well for the rest of the week, but did not felt great today (Saturday 3/7/20). I spent most of the day in bed trying to get up and do things, and then ending up back in bed. I am a bit grumpy and frustrated.

Chris and I had plans to see a play at school tonight, but a driving theme of the play (Radium Girls) is related to young women getting sick and I am not sure we are up for that. We shall see--getting out of the house may be good for me.

Meanwhile, everyone is freaking out about covid-19. All school trips are cancelled. Teachers are trying to prepare for what to do if we have to close the school because Westchester is a hotbed of covid-19 activity. My favorite quotation from the Governor is "Westchester is an obvious problem for us." Awesome. Let's all go wash our hands.

I have another infusion on Tuesday. I am sure it will be super.
