The good in the world.
Please check out this article about my previous radiation therapist.

Adeline was one of my radiation therapists last August. I remember her because she was always so genuinely interested in whatever I was crafting while waiting (and there was a lot of waiting). She also practiced her calligraphy to make me a "graduation" certificate from radiation. It was super sweet; although, I will be honest: I was hardly in the mood to receive it when I was coming back the next day for an infusion.
There is a LOT of hard stuff in this world today. A LOT. I've been listening, having many conversations, learning, reading, and leaning into heaviness of race, my role, my commitment to change, and how much work there is to do.
And then, while I feel the overwhelming heaviness, I try not to despair--because despair often leads to depression and hopelessness and inaction.
For me, it helps to remember that there is good in this world. And people like Adeline help me remember that good. She works hard to spread cheer in any way she can--even to a mid-30s woman who struggles to accept it in that moment.
