Snow, Covid vaccine, and a possible LeToomis cottage

2/3/2021

It is truly winter! We have Amanda-sized drifts of snow drifting outside. The snowflakes continue to flurry, keeping us in a perpetual winter wonderland.

Monday was a snow day. In a different world without Zoom we would have the next few days off while they made the campus safe and cleared the snow. This year, we have one day off and will continue with zoom until we can all safely come back on campus.

Chris and I took a short walk in the morning before the snow was too deep.

While Chris shoveled, Kelly suggested that I make Kenny a Snow Volcano-- so I did! It is not too exciting, but it worked.

Health-wise, I have been doing well. I have been working very hard with my PT exercises and I am doing much better with stairs. If anyone wants to be my gym buddy, let me know! At home, I am trying to build up my cardio and practice lifting my legs, so I have been experimenting with youtube/tiktok dance videos. It isn't pretty, but it is a little more fun. I've told Chris he is not allowed to watch me embarrass myself. He either has to go away, or participate. He opts to disappear much to my disappointment.

I am still doing hyperbarics every morning. I will keep that up through March (or longer). I am hopeful it is helping. Although I am tired, I otherwise feel pretty good! I am trying to engage my fellow patients in conversation, I am determined to have a new friend by the end of this.

I am getting the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine next week, and Chris received his first dose today, 2/3. We are so grateful to be eligible and to be able to access the appointments. We know that many folks are having a much harder time. I wish there were more equity with the vaccine distribution.

The most fun news is that Chris and I found a little cottage that we like in Sullivan County. It is about 75 minutes away.  We have an accepted offer, but it is not yet under contract. The house requires several updates to make sure it is safe (e.g. radon mitigation, adding an electrical sub-panel, etc.), as well as some bigger projects to take care of a house that was uncared-for for possibly the last decade.

The good news is that we can work on most of those things while we begin to enjoy the house. It is near a lake and lots of good trails to explore.  We hope that my Dad can come up and help us with some of the smaller chores, and also get some time fishing in the lake.

I won't worry you with the woes of trying to get bloodwork and discovering that they no longer take walk-ins (but the appointments are 2-weeks out and I was told yesterday that I needed it...). The daily annoyances are now just part of the fabric, and we can focus on the fact that, on the whole, things are going well. Let's take the wins and the joy when we get it.
