The best news!
Whether it is from the cards or the packages of love; the prayers, good vibes, or good wishes; the naps under a handmade quilt; companionship to appointments, at the end of the phone, or on the deck of Bar LeToomis-- wherever it came from, however it happened, it worked.
I (finally) had a PET scan approved by insurance last week.
I got the results: No signs of active cancer cells in my body.
This is the best news that they could give me at this point.
What does this mean?
It is hard to say right now. Nothing changes immediately. I am still in treatment (which carries its own risks--it destroyed my thyroid already and can cause cardiovascular damage and other exciting things), but I may be able to stop, or at least take a break and let my body heal. Stopping carries risks of potentially controlled disease becoming uncontrolled and the treatment not working a second time.
Metastatic disease is a jerk and known to hide and pop up again, but there is also data that show single instances of recurrence.
For now, we will bask in the score:
Amanda: 2
Cancer: 0
