Crises, a car, and a couple couches
February was a very busy month, and yet it slogged on and on and on!
I returned to in-person at Hackley when there was a sharp decline of covid cases.
I was there for the Lower School programming on disability awareness that I work on all year with some parents. Meanwhile, the children went buck-wild and there were some very intense crises whereby I had to help support my colleagues. I was working pretty long hours managing the behaviors, providing support, and the parent responses.
One particular issue was a series of children who just stopped wanting to do things that they didn't want to do. We are going to write a book about Juan the Swan who doesn't Wanna. Don't steal our idea.
For Valentine's Day, I got a car!! (kind of). Chris and I had been car shopping for AGES and we finally decided to just do it! Her name is Poli'Ahu after the Hawaiian snow goddess. She is a Hyundai Kona. I am a huge fan. I picked it up the Friday before Valentine's Day so that Chris could go to Rock Hill and do what he needed to do and I could go to a (superfunamazing) Galentine's day party.
Chris and I had a quiet Valentine's day-- I worked late and then we got pizza. We celebrated the day after-- when we could get a nice reservation for when and where we wanted. Most of February was about the house. We had our first homeowner mega-freakout. We had turned off the water and drained the pipes anticipating a big freeze, but the thermostats went kaput and our house was COLD. The remaining water in the shower pipes broke the faucet, and we were terrified that there was a leak. Luckily, as dad says "with a phone call, some pictures, and youtube we can solve anything!" That day, I played the part of a plumber, while Chris was the electrician.
We also bought things for the house! We got TWO new couches AND a fireplace insert. We got the couches in time for a lovely BuckWoods visit-- which was so very wonderful! Harlan and Tassie became best friends.
Today is a chemo day. I've been mostly OK recently. Some yucky tummy issues. Lots of skin stuff. Achey and whatnot. It has been hard some days, and easier on others. It makes it hard to want to exercise and I know that is what I need to do.
I am thrilled that Dr. Stein decided that to get a Rocketbook after chatting to me about mine. We've officially bonded. I am devastated to say goodbye to LaToya who has been my administrative rockstar. She is going to be working in the office of the president on the Columbia University side of things.
I am very ready for a break. Thank goodness spring break is almost here! Chris, Stanley, and I will be heading to Cali to see Chris' family and give me a huge dose of Vitamin Sea! We will come back and enjoy some spring yardwork at the house.
We would love for you to come and see us! Let us know if you want to book a room at the Bluebird Ranch! XO
