Last week of school & a week of medical mischegas

Hello all! The last two weeks have been rather eventful.

I spent the week in Tarrytown visiting with my faculty friends, testing out driving-- I can do it, but it's probably best if I limit it-- and feeling the feelings.

At school, the end of the year has many announcements, awards, and that lovely sense of closure. We are delighted to see some of our wonderful colleagues win amazing awards for their hard work and sincerely wish there were more to go around to those who do so much work without recognition. It was wonderful to wave to my lower school friends as the went off for their summer adventures and cheers to colleagues for all their hard work.

I stayed in Tarrytown to go to chemo and have an MRI on Monday. I also finished cleaning out the fridge and packed up some remaining items to take up to our little Bluebird cottage.

The bummer news from our little lake-adjacent home is that there is a a new house being built riiiiiight beside us. They cleared the lot which means our entirely wooded lot is much more exposed. C'est la vie.

As I was settling in at Bluebird, I got a call from my surgeon that my MRI showed a large pocket of fluid that had still not drained. I was immediately scheduled for a next-day procedure to have a drain placed.

There was some behind-the-scenes confusion, which led to me also being scheduled for a biopsy the following day. Chris and I were confused and trying to sort that out on our end led to a very stressful morning as we drove to the hospital for my drain placement. The stress increased when we finally arrived and they told me that the planned anesthesia was not just local-- which is what I had been told. I decided to be brave and went through with the procedure with only local anesthesia. It was ultimately fine-- not terribly comfortable, but fine.

As the anesthesia wore off, I discovered that I am back to being rather uncomfortable and will be spending the next few days resting. (Chris tells me that this is what I should have been doing all along! I may have been testing the limits of my No BLT restrictions in order to do some chores.)

Because the fun never stops, we were also then informed that I would need to be back on Monday for another procedure that would indeed be done under twilight anesthesia. They are going to inject a dye to see the extent of the un-healed area, and then something to induce scarring so that the tissue would bond-- and that is, apparently, quite unpleasant. woohoo!

Next week (7/19/24) I am looking forward to a visit from the Buckwoods. They will be coming during a heat wave, so I am hopeful that we will get to enjoy the pool and lake quite a bit. I hope that I will be cleared to go into bodies of water as well!

If not, I will continue to practice crocheting-- my newest hobby-- or some embroidery in the sunshine. I have plenty of projects that keep me busy, but I would rather be a bit more active. sigh.

XOXO, A
